I have always been thinking of wood as one of the most fascinating products nature has to offer.
The surrounding forests are of immense value. Learning to appreciate them and above all, protect them should be everyones priority. Thanks to my wonderful job, (as guitar manufacturer), I spend a lot of time wandering around lhe local forests. I walk for hours looking for the right tree, the right wood, the most suitable one to be used for my guitars.
One day, something special happened to me... I became a very particular godfather. The godfather of an old, tall red fir. It happended in spring 2003, while I have been looking for the right tree. Unfortunately they were all to small.
I therefore decided to contact the president of the forestal district of Prags. He told me about a big tree and asked me if I wanted to see it. I agreed immediately...who els e could be interested but me?
After a short walk, I have been standing there. Right in front of it, in an area called Seewald, at about 1500m altitude.
It was a huge red fir. About 250 years old, measuring 48 m in height, 3.32 m in diameter and 19.5 m³ wood.
I was impressed and excited at the same time.
...thinking that one day this wonderful tree had to be cut down, made me feel blue.
This was how I got the idea to take that tree under my personal protection. I informed
the suburb hamlet committee as well as the forestal authorities about my plans. Everyone was excited about my idea.
From that moment on I was seen as the "godfather" of this century-old red fire. I was very happy about the goal I reached and officially assumed this role in the year 2005. We (the suburb hamlet committee, the forestal authority, my friends and me.. and not to forget the reverend that blessed the tree) met around our "godchild". It was one of the most moving moments in my life. Every time my engagements allow it, I go to see my tree to be inspired by its overwhelming height.
If doing so, I have been able to make at least some of you understand, that we're the responsibles for the natures' protection... well... then I reached more I ever expected.
